Information regarding Rapid Pass :
Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) has launched the integrated e-ticketing
(One Card for All Transport) system to facilitate public transport operation and fare collection.
With technical assistance from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), DTCA has introduced the smart
card Rapid Pass for automatic fare collection and integrated fare collection system (Fare Collection System Integration)
in order to establish clearing house in DTCA. To ensure smooth and uninterrupted transportation in various public transports
such as Metro Rail, Bus Rapid Transit, Bangladesh Railway, BIWTC’s water transport, government and private bus services,
DTCA is implementing the Rapid Pass system. In this regard, DTCA has undertaken the project "Establishment of Clearing House
(Phase II) for the coordination of transportation ticketing system in Dhaka city and adjacent districts."
Rapid Pass for paying Metro Rail fares :
To implement the Rapid Pass system, collect fares, and settle payments for Metro Rail Line-6, a Public Transport Operator (PTO)
Agreement was signed with DMTCL on September 19, 2022. From the first day of the launch of Metro Rail Line-6, fares will be
collected using the Rapid Pass card and the MRT Pass card, which is made according to the specifications of the Rapid Pass card.
Security system of Rapid Pass :
Rapid Pass is a Near-Field Communication (NFC) smart card made by the Japanese company Sony. This card contains an Integrated Circuit
and is made according to the ISO 18092 Standard. Data can be transferred to and from this card from a distance of up to 10 centimeters
with a suitable Reader/Writer within 0.1 seconds. This card has the highest reliable EAL6+ level security system of information technology,
which is certified by ISO/IEC 15408.
Rapid Pass for paying government/private bus service fares :
A PTO Agreement was signed with BRTC on April 17, 2018. A MoU was signed with Omama International (Pvt.) Ltd. on 16/05/2017.
A MoU and Agent Agreement were signed with Dhaka Chaka on 18/12/2017. Under the Clearing House Phase-II project, 1000 card bus validators
will be purchased to collect fares of government and private buses through the Rapid Pass card.
Rapid Pass for paying BRT fares :
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) and DBRT on March 22, 2022, to
implement the Rapid Pass system in Dhaka Bus Rapid Transit (DBRT).
Future plans of Rapid Pass :
A Rapid Pass mobile app is being developed to bring the Rapid Pass card to the doorstep of the general public. To establish a sustainable
e-ticketing system, activities are being taken to form a Special Purpose Company (SPC) under the Clearing House project Phase-II to operate,
expand, and increase the multiple uses of the Transport Clearing House and the Rapid Pass card (payment of utility bills, toll payment,
use in supermarkets, payment of students’ fees, etc.). In the future, it will be possible to bring various MRT lines, railways, BIWTC,
government/private buses, and other public transport modes onto a proper integrated e-ticketing platform. This will eliminate the need for
passengers to collect tickets repeatedly while traveling through various modes of transport. Users will be able to pay transport fares
through hassle-free, cashless transactions using the Rapid Pass in public transport. This will improve the quality of service in the
transport sector. Moreover, the Origination Destination (OD) and Big Data generated from fare collection through the Rapid Pass card can be
used to develop realistic and strategic Urban Transport planning. This card will initiate positive changes in building smart citizens,
smart economy, and smart society. "Rapid Pass" will play a role in accelerating sustainable development
